After a delicious breakfast at your hotel you will enjoy a full day of sightseeing in Jerash and Ajlun. We start with a drive to the Roman city of Jerash, about an hours’ journey, visiting Maximus Cardo, the main colonnaded street which is flanked by temples, churches, theaters & endless mosaics. This ancient city boasts unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6500 years. The city’s golden age came under Roman rule and the site is generally acknowledged to be one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world.

Only 20 minutes drive away, you will visit Ajlun Castle which is an awe-inspiring Islamic fortress that withstood the power of the Crusader armies in the 12th Century. Climbing the narrow staircases and walking through endless hallways takes you back to a time of chivalry and faith, where you can almost imagine the sounds of battling iron and the sight of the raging battlefield. Free day in Amman

Today is a free day in Amman. Choose from a variety of optional full and ½ day tours or simply explore on your own. Amman is situated in a hilly area between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley and the contrasts between old and new is unique. The commercial heart of the city, ultra modern buildings, hotels, restaurants, art galleries and boutiques rub shoulders comfortable with traditional coffee shops and artisans workshops. There is evidence of the city’s much older past everywhere you turn. B

5

Mount Nebo – Madaba - Petra

After breakfast at the hotel you will start your touring with a drive to visit Mount Nebo which is about a 45 minute drive from Amman; it’s the mountaintop where Moses was buried and the most revered holy site in Jordan. When atop this mountain, you will be able to see, the vast panorama that encompasses the Jordan River Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem, often referred to as the Holyland. A small Byzantine church was built there by early Christians, and six tombs have been hollowed out of the rock beneath the mosaic-covered floor.

A short 15 minute drive onwards takes you to Madaba, which is known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and dubbed the city of Mosaics. Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly colored local stone, it depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns as far as the Nile Delta. The church was built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 X 6m, 94 square meters, only about a quarter of which is preserved. After your visit you proceed onto Petra which is approximately a 3.5 hours journey. B

Petra – Wadi Rum – Aqaba

After breakfast at your hotel you will then start your visit of Petra. World Unesco Heritage site Petra, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, is without doubt Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabateans, an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago, turning it into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.

Entrance to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge, over 1 kilometer in length, which is flanked on either side by soaring, 80 meter high cliffs. The colors and formations of the rocks are dazzling and just walking through the Siq is an experience in itself. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh which is the Treasury. A massive façade, 30m wide and 43m high, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink, rock-face and dwarfing everything around it. It was carved in the early 1st century as the tomb of an important Nabatean king and represents the engineering genius of these ancient people.

At the end of the tour, you will walk back to site entrance and continue with a drive to Wadi Rum that includes a Jeep tour in the desert. This excursion includes both the Lawrence Spring and Khazalee Mountain before continuing onto Aqaba the city on the Red Sea, only an hour from Wadi Rum. B Hilton Double Tree (2 nights)

What our globetrotters say

"The beauty of Jordan and it's people are exceptional. Camping in the desert at Wadi Rum was an amazing experience! To float in the Dead Sea was an unusual experience and  so much fun!"
- L and M Woolston, Toronto, Ontario

"The trip was absolutely perfect. Goway connections to Emeco and Karma House in Egypt and Jordan were just great. The tour guides-George in Egypt and Joseph in Jordan were excellent. The trip could not have been more perfect. We had to think about and worry about absolutely nothing. All in all we would certainly recommend Goway and would consider a future trip with them. It was a truly memorable, fantastic trip and I could not think of anything that could have been done or places we could have gone to have made the trip better. Thanks for all your hard work on our behalf both  before and during the trip."
- Denyce

"I will totally recommend to anybody to visit Jordan and now that I've seen the middle east I can't wait to go back and visit the other countries in the area. I met a lot of people and chatted about where they'd been in the same area, and how my trip was going and that whole area has just intrigued me even more, so much so that I can't wait to go back."
- LC from Mississauga, ON
